Finance hiring is risk-averse by nature. Your resume's job is to show that you've handled the specific statutory and reporting work the role needs, at the scale it needs, without errors.

Lead with scope and scale

Turnover handled, number of entities, transaction volume and team size define the level. A candidate closing books for a ₹40 crore manufacturer and one closing for a ₹4 crore trading firm are doing different jobs.

Weak

Responsible for maintaining accounts, preparing financial statements and handling GST filings.

Stronger

Owned month-end close for 3 entities (₹62 crore combined turnover), closing by working day 5; filed GSTR-1/3B for 11 GSTINs with zero late fees across 2 years and cleared a statutory audit with no major observations.

Statutory work, named specifically

  • GST — GSTR-1, 3B, 9/9C, e-invoicing, reconciliation with 2A/2B
  • TDS — deduction, deposit, 24Q/26Q returns, Form 16/16A
  • Income tax — advance tax, return filing, assessments handled
  • ROC/MCA — annual filings, board resolutions
  • Payroll statutory — PF, ESI, professional tax
  • Audit — statutory, internal, tax; whether you handled auditors directly

Systems, in order of Indian demand

Tally Prime remains the most-asked-for. SAP FICO commands the highest premium. Zoho Books, QuickBooks, Busy, Oracle NetSuite and Microsoft Dynamics all appear regularly. Advanced Excel is assumed — so say what you actually do in it: Power Query, pivot models, lookups across large ledgers.

Qualification line

CA, CMA, CS, MBA Finance, B.Com — state the qualification, the year, and if you're a CA, the attempt-level detail only if it's flattering. For semi-qualified candidates, say so plainly ('CA Inter, both groups, articleship at a mid-tier firm'); ambiguity here is always read unfavourably.

Accuracy as an achievement

In finance, nothing going wrong is the achievement. 'Zero late filings across 24 months', 'no audit qualifications in 3 consecutive years', 'reconciliation variance under 0.1%' are the strongest bullets you can write, and almost nobody writes them.
